I can accept that. As I said, I can sometimes reproduce the problem, and when I bought my iPhone, the store was out of bumpers, I'll try and get one and then pass judgement.
However, I just am cautious about how I hold it. I tend to hold it in my right hand and operate it with my thumb when I am not typing. When I am on a call, I place my pinky underneath the phone to hold it up.
I've always done that though.

The bottom line, yes, there is a problem and the bumper helps, but overall the antenna is still better than the 3GS.
In another report, the data upload and download speeds have increased dramatically over the 3GS (2x for downloads, 10x for uploads):
