I got a call at 14,000 on top of Mammoth in CA. Would rather not have service sometimes ;-)
But in all reality, I have a sprint overdrive unit and a tethered iPhone. Under all circumstances, the iPhone when on AT&T is easily faster than the Overdrive... Even on Sprint's version of "4G". When on Sprint's 3G, the iPhone tethered is between 50% to 80% faster, achieving speeds in excess of 2.8Mb/s in some cases.
I have had Verizon at the same time as the tethered iPhone hands down, iPhone tethering with AT&T is faster.
But coverage with 3G, there is a significant amount of legacy CDMA all over the US... No competition for that, Verizon and Sprint both have better coverage of CDMA 3G than AT&T has coverage of GSM 3G in the US.
