Worked for me on Apple iOS < 4 until we shut down our Cisco VPN servers for
Juniper. No special tricks, just entered the appropriate info into the
built-in VPN client.
Sometimes user auth failed when our VPN servers couldn't contact the
correct internal authentication servers -- but then it failed for everyone,
not just iOS.
You can configure Cisco VPN servers in a googleplex of ways that could
potentially break iOS VPN compatibility. Luckily, our VPN had a
more-or-less standard configuration.
