I would actually think Apple would counter, and Steve has quite the war chest at his disposal.  How would the loss of the Adobe suite on this platform affect it?  Ironically, maybe not as much as I think it would since Mac OS X has become the default alternative OS.  At the very least, I'd think Quark would benefit IMMENSELY from this if it were to happen.  Designers hate Quark, but not nearly as much as they hate Microsoft.
