Hopefully this is a feature that can be disabled. The reason being is with picture and video messaging data can add up, whereas if you are using SMS/MMS the data used to transmit multimedia material does not count against your data cap.
I'd prefer the standard SMS/MMS that I currently have, as the plan includes unlimited mobile to mobile minutes on any carrier with ATT, so it provides a little bit more benefit than just the messaging aspect. And MMS does not count against my data… i tether a lot so any data not sent unnecessarily is crucial for me.
