I wonder if any of "Them" read this list ? (Yea, yea, file a Radar report --- been there, done that. Still no fix.)
This happens on a number of my "Mail" App accounts --- as mentioned, this is due to ill-reported network errors and has nothing to do with incorrect usernames/passwords. As an added bonus... If you makes the mistake of believing the error message and actually re-enters the correct username/password, it is likely to munge what is stored in your keychain so when the network error finally goes away, you really do have an incorrect username/password that is presented to mail server. But, not to worry, you'll get an error message that states you are using an incorrect username/password :-)
