My point about legality had nothing to to with the effort to reverse
engineer FileVault 2. Rather, it had to do with reading email while driving.
California Vehicle Code Section 23123.5
"(a) A person shall not drive a motor vehicle while using an electronic
wireless communications device to write, send, or read a text-based
communication."

An exception for voice-operated, hands free operation was recently passed
and takes effect January 1:

All this applies just in California, but other states may have similar
rules.
