Peter,

Selecting SSL is not expected to change a host name, but rather set the default port to 443 and of course switches to using SSL for securing the communication channel.  Maybe my use of a different AOL host name caused confusion.

iChat Video with AOL users (ie. Windows) is possible just not a great experience.  You can choose to relay the video thru the AOL servers as well if you need.  Remember that the default behavior is to have a direct Client<->Client Video session... Or mutli-way with up to 4 people total.

Previously provided as the following link:
- About video chatting with AIM buddies
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iChat/5.0/en/9758.html

*note*:  yes, I do know that the above link points to iChat 5.0 and OS X Lion includes iChat 6.0....

Shawn,

I found changing the iChat server to slogin.oscar.aol.com using port 443 allows iChat Video to work (better or at all?) with Lion clients. Just clicking the Use SSL didn't change the server. This might just have been my Mac and not the normal process. Is this what you should expect when performing #2 below?

Select "Use SSL" setting in Preferences->Accounts->Server Settings to encrypt channel
This is the same as having a Browser-based SSL communication
AOL Servers can access content, since this is comms between Client-Server

*** This provides full "channel" encryption
