I've heard that there is little chance Apple will release a public statement about this but I also heard that Apple will be working directly with organizations to explain their position and make sure that concerned parties understand Apple's serious commitment to environmentally friendly products. Apple has planned to have their products environmental achievements certified with UL. We are working with Apple and our DOE contracts on this now. I suggest contacting your reseller or Apple rep to work with your purchasing department.
What I've heard from Apple is that they separated from EPEAT because the EPEAT standards haven't be updated since 2009 and the the new standards set to go into effect sometime in 2013 still fail to take enough of Apple's environmental achievements into consideration. Apple feel EPEAT are not setting the standards based on industry leaders but on industry mediocrity.
It seems EPEAT has become too political and industry controlled for Apple's taste.
