I have successfully moved to new hardware using SuperDuper over 20 times (actually did it continuously at AKO for high availability operations).
Would recommend rolling into Mt. Lion server (very nice) and then simply using Target Disk Mode to roll into new hardware when you deem upgrade is necessary.
Now speaking of upgrade, I just put a new SSD in my laptop… I **was** thinking about upgrading my laptop but for $169 for a 256GB Crucial M4, I figured I would try it out. Can always use the drive in one of my servers (yes, minis). OMGosh, my system is enormously more responsive. It boots in something like 15 seconds. I get my app resume under Mt. Lion in under 25 seconds. During normal run time, everything is faster and no wonder as UNIX is file bound and speeding the files means speeding the computer.
So, before you buy another machine, definitely check out adding some juice to your boot drive. I got mine at B&H during what appears to be a sale for $169.They are back up to $199:

Oh yes, besides speed, it is conserving my battery in my laptop. I am getting at least 30% more battery life now.
