Fits in with the rest of the Apple hardware product lines. We call them "MacBook Air", "MacBook Pro", "iMac", and "Mac Pro". Likewise the "iPod shuffle", "iPod nano", "iPod classic", and "iPod touch". No version numbers. The next iPhone will probably be simply called "the new iPhone".

The resolution *is* the big change (and at the same price point!). I haven't read a review by someone who has seen it in person who didn't think it was gorgeous. I think this is a product that will need to be seen in person before it can be evaluated. [Does anyone know when the Apple Store will have them for display? Will it be next Friday too?]
The main speed bump was for the graphics (I presume) to help support 4 times the number of pixels.
The camera sensor was bumped up and new optics added.
Radios were bumped up too; LTE.
iPhoto for iOS (looks very sweet), and bumps for several other programs.
I personally look forward to more textbooks on "the new iPad". I think the retina display combined with the interactivity has the potential to create an incredibly immersive environment.
