"Fusion" is implemented as two distinct drives – the smaller Flash and the standard 2.5". It's the OS that "Fuses" the two. There's been speculation that it's related to an Ivy Bridge feature.

I'm guessing that the bulge is also there for strength since the stem connects there. The "chin" is also a little deeper than above - wonder if the drive is there.
Haven't looked around yet, but I'm wondering if that "Fusion" drive manufacturer is/will be making them available separately. Also wondering if it has to be a specific (hybrid) drive for the OS to do its voodoo it's supposed to do. Are you? :-)
