I hit the same problem last night (I upgraded MacOS from 10.11.5 to 10.11.6 the other day) but left Adobe Acrobat Reader DC at “2015 Release | 2015.017.20050” and Adobe Acrobat XI Pro at 11.0.17. I tried to sign multiple PDFs (using both Acrobat and Acrobat Pro) and received the same error (but my CAC still works on websites).

I click the field to sign and am able to select a certificate and enter PIN. Then I get an error:

"Error encountered while signing:

The credential selected for signing is invalid”

I normally use CACkey but tried removing it and installing SmartCardServices, that didn’t make a difference. My CAC is working normally with Safari and Mail.
