I didn't make myself clear. If I issue the
diskutil resizeVolume /dev/disk3s2 newSize
where newSize resizes the disk smaller, it works. Unfortunately, if I
then try to use the same command with a newSize that was the original
size of the partition it fails with the error in my original message.
I am not trying to create anything so the additional parameters
resizeVolume can take when reducing the size of a volume don't apply.
