NDA, I assume that you're trying to do this an a 10.4.x system (-:
If so, you are probably running into a known bug in HFS volume
resizing. The upshot of this bug is that if you:
1. shrink a volume
2. grow it back to the original size
3. shrink it again
you won't be able to grow it back to its original size. I don't know
of any workaround for this on 10.4.x (other than initialising the
volume between steps 2 and 3).
If that doesn't sound like what you're trying to do, can you run your
tests again, starting from a freshly partitioned drive, and actually
cut'n'paste the transcript from Terminal into your email. That's a
much more precise way of describing to us the exact steps you're
taking.
