Thanks Alex. The apple-history website is really
a rich resource I’m looking for. I’m also planning to adopt an used
Mac soon.
I will be more careful to avoid being
trapped by PC experience in Mac world.

backward compatible?
>No. I means that OS X can
not look into the future: OS X 10.2 does not support your hardware. A good site
to find minimum and maximum systems is http://www.apple-history.com
In general, your system will not boot with anything less than what it
came with (in this case, Panther)
>> Since this a common
issue in software test, I would like to know how developers here test your
applications that is targeted to an older OS version? Do you always keep an old
Macintosh computer for testing purpose? If so, may I know which Macintosh model
(G3, G4?) would be the best for running major releases of Jaguar (Mac OS 10.2.0
~ 10.2.8)?
>Yes, we (my company) keep
a bunch of old Macs around for exactly that purpose.
>Personally, I have a
beige G3 for 10.2, as it not only runs that OS, but is the absolut minimum
(officially supported) hardware you will encounter with that system. I can not
tell you what the best system for you is, but again, www.apple-history.com will be a helpful
resource in finding out which machines will run what OS.
