What is the best way to create a packagemaker project in which you can
include metapackages and packages....which aren't just treated as
files to drop in the system? I can't seem to create anything that will
allow this.
For example, I create a new project with 10.5 as the oldest target - I
then drag in a metapackage. By default it treats this is a file/folder
and simply deposits the metapackage in the target path specified in
the component pane....instead of running the metapackage as an
installer.
I've only been using PM 10.5 for a week or so, on and off, so I'll be
happy to admit ignorance here....any ideas?
When you create a project in PackageMaker 3.0.1 with 10.5 as the old
target, you end up with a 10.5 format package which is either a flat
archive including both the distribution script and the packages or a
distribution script and some flat packages. Metapackages are not
supported in 10.5 format as a metapackage could be seen as the choice
item in the distribution script format.
If you still want to use metapackages, you will have to stick with the
10.2/10.3 format package. This may require using an older version of
PackageMaker (on a older OS version eventually).
