Hi William,

Not sure if you have got an answer yet...

I find it strange that the program doesn't let us change the name of the package - at least I don't know of a way. If anyone knows a way, please let us know.

It is determined by your source folder name, and then that name is displayed during installation and also given to the name of the Library/Receipt/...

I thought I might be able to change the package name in raw editing mode, but doesn't seem to be possible. Maybe there is a good reason for that, have no idea.

You said.....
<<it says "Installing <PackageName>" where PackageName is automatically determined by the name if the file(s) in the package.>>

I find that it is actually determined by the last folder in my "Install" path in the configuration pane (my source folder), is that what you're saying, or is yours working differently? I'm also using version 3. I have selected "Absolute path" rather than "relative to project, maybe that makes a difference.

The way I've sometimes been getting it to display what I want, is by just giving that name to my source folder. It has also helped to select/deselect "include root in package" in the contents pane (changing the "destination" path accordingly), depending on what folder name I want displayed.

But for various reasons, it's hasn't been ideal for me to change my source folder names, and I also ran into a problem when I had a distribution with multiple packages that all had the same folder name. i.e. package 1: /folder1/myfolder | package 2: /folder2/myfolder | package3: /folder3/myfolder.

This does work if you're careful, but seriously confuses PackageMaker in some cases to the point of having to redo the entire distribution. (make backups).

---

The other approach, modifying strings - I'm not seeing a way to do it. Seems logical that it would be possible though...

Andrew

Subject: Modifying Strings on the Installing Dialog

Hello,

I'm using PackageMaker 3.0.3 (174) and looking for a way to modify the
"Installation" dialog.

I'd like to modify the string right above the progress bar. By default
it says "Installing <PackageName>" where PackageName is automatically
determined by the name if the file(s) in the package.

Is it possible to either modify the automatically-generated package
names or modify the strings displayed when installing?

-William
