With previous OS versions, I would tend to believe it is. Anyway,
it's always good to test.

like a bunch of flags in the new formats.

This could happen. But at the same time, what you package could also
be incompatible with the next OS version and you would need to make a
new version and a new package. In all cases, you will need to check
if things are OK on the new OS when it's available.
