Hello,
I'm currently upgrading one of our products for Snow Leopard, and have
run into some problems with PackageMaker.
I create a set of six installer packages (.pkg), each of which
installs a component of the product. Each of these packages installs
correctly when used separately.
I am then trying to combine these six packages into a single
metapackage. (Minimum target is Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger). This is where
things all fall apart.
I'm running into two separate problems.
First, when PackageMaker combines the files into a metapackage, the
owners and groups are for the components are being modified (Not a
good thing for kernel extensions and printer drivers). However, since
I added the subpackages to the metapackage using "Add Package
Reference", there is nowhere for me to edit the users and groups.
Second, If I add the subpackages to the metapackage using drag and
drop, everything works fine until I save and re-open the .pmdoc. At
that point, PackageMaker rearranges the files, and separates the
subpackages from their choices, which results in a broken and
useless .pmdoc. (Note that PackageMaker on 10.5 doesn't have this
problem, but I still am unable to get it to set users and groups
correctly.)
Can anyone shed some light on this? It doesn't seem as though I'm
doing anything particularly out of the ordinary here, so I would have
expected this to all have just worked.
Thanks for your time,
Ron Aldrich
