Hi,
I am restating the problem as till now I am waiting for the solution (if any). This problem occurs only in OS 10.5. What happens is when my installer is run in GUI mode and the installer log is opened, (Command + L) whatever logs are generated by preinstall and postinstall script (for example echo commands) arrive in error logs. Ideally they should occur when "Show all logs" is selected which is the behavior in 10.6. But they occur in "Show errors only" too in 10.5. Any way to fix this? I want only the standard error logs generated by the installer to come in Error Logs. Can the logs generated by scripts inside the package be visible only when "Show all logs" is chosen?
Thanks

No this does not do the job. I have a line in preinstall script "echo 'some text' > /private/var/log/install.log"
In console I simply get 'some text'. There is no ./preinstall before it and other attributes like date and time of installation in that line.
Also when I open the log in GUI the line itself is missing. On Wed, Oct 6, 2010 at 1:28 PM, kushal ghosh

Redirect output to where? To /private/var/log/install.log? The intention is to use this standard log file.

Redirect the output? Not sure it will work though.

Probably more Installer.app version dependent.
