When the preflight script is run on my system from the Terminal, it fails.
kill: usage: kill [-s sigspec | -n signum | -sigspec] pid | jobspec
... or kill -l [sigspec]
I tend to believe you should check that $thepid is set before trying
to kill the process because there may not be a "Mail Archiver
Scheduler" running process on the system (e.g. first install).
