Thanks for all suggestions. I could successfully run the installer. I was giving extra space next to - target / . Now i removed the space. ALL good now :-)

Best would be the entire session, something like:
myhost:~ # scp -r firefox.pkg somehost:/Users/admin/Desktop/
myhost:~ # <scp output here>
myhost:~ # ssh somehost
somehost:~ # sudo installer -pkg /Users/admin/Desktop/firefox.pkg -target /
somehost:~ # installer: Error the package path specified was invalid: '/users/admin/desktop/firefox.pkg'.
