This sounds like a reasonable argument, if it wasn't for the fact that
the 10.1 update was so huge. Downloading it via modem is pretty ugly,
and then you have to burn it to CD. You'd be better off advising users
to go to their nearest Mac store and get an upgrade CD.
Hum, I prevented myself to post on the 10.1 free-upgrade sentence but I
can't help to post on this one.
. The 10.1 upgrade is not free at all for 90% of the world. You have to
pay for the shipping. Something like $20. I read on a mailing-list that
someone who had ordered the CD in December 2001 has still not received
it in July.
. Outside the US, there is no Apple Store (where you could indeed get
one free CD) and it's been a well known fact that resellers have not
been all really cool when it come to the 10.1 upgrade CD. For instance
in France, the story was that you should have bought a 10.0 box from the
reseller to get access to the CD and in most of the cases, it was not
free: it was $20.
