In reply to Jens Bauer's message of the 06/08/2002 at 04:48 +0200,
Usually this kind of application is stored on a CD, which a telephone
company offers for free to their customers.
The catch is that all kinds of users might grab one of the free CDs, and
among those, there will still be 10.0 users.
This is exactly right: a potential customer puts a sign-up CD in his
Mac; it auto-launches and tells him he's got to go spend some money
ad go through the hassle of a pretty major OS upgrade before he can
use our fine system. I know what my reaction would be: "you want me
to go through all this just so I can sign up to your service? Get
lost - there are 100s of ISPs out there."
The CD supports systems all the way back to Win 95 and MacOS 7.6, so
not supporting an OS only a year old sounds pretty lame. Besides the
ISP in question has server stats that show a signification proportion
of OSX users still running 10.0 and has said that if we can't make it
work for all OSX users, they prefer to pull the OSX stuff off the CD.
So any help or hints would be appreciated.
