Yes; you can do this. I've done it years ago, but not for FTP directly
(Apple are you listening ?)
-What I did was that I made a kind of RAMdisk (or "cache"), which had
block-level access. My file up/download was then based upon mirroring the
contents of the disk.
If anybody feels like implementing this on any version of Mac OS, they're
welcome.
