But how many programs use block level access or file locking?
Treating an FTP site as if it was a local disk, only slower, is a very
very nice feature. It is intuitive and practical, very much in line with
the Macintosh way. There is nothing that would prevent supporting it for
the vast majority of applications.
Direct support for FTP sites as if they were local disks has been in
Windows for years using third party addons, and I belive Microsoft put it
in Windows XP as a standard feature.
This would be a great opportunity for a third party developer, if Apple
isn't going to do it.
