Old System Configuration Framework APIs

Greetings All

Apple is hoping to remove some old System Configuration framework APIs from the framework in Jaguar. These APIs were never officially made public, although it's possible that some developers might be using them to provide programmatic network setup on Mac OS X 10.0.x. Before we remove these APIs we need to make sure we won't break anyone, or if we do break them, that they have a new version in place before we ship Jaguar.

The APIs in question are the Mac OS X 10.0.x versions of the System Configuration framework APIs, for example SCDOpen, SCDClose, SCDGet, and SCDSet.

The officially supported System Configuration APIs (SCPreferencesCreate, SCDynamicStoreCreate, and so on), which were made public with Mac OS X 10.1, will continue to work on Jaguar and for the foreseeable future.

Note that the WWDC Jaguar seed supports both the old and the new APIs, so testing on that build is not enough to guarantee compatibility. The acid test is to check for any references to System Configuration framework APIs that aren't in the Mac OS X 10.1 public headers.

If you are using any non-public System Configuration APIs, please contact me directly.
