Under Classic Environment, I can open usb->serial adapter using OT without

Under OS X however, using the same code (very very similar to yours), I
cannot open internal modem port nor IrDA port (Titanium). They are visible,
but not available. Is it correct, are those ports 'reserved' for OS X
(why?), or am I still doing something wrong?

You can't access serial ports via the OT API on Mac OS X, either inside the Classic compatibility environment or from a Carbon application. This is covered in more detail in DTS Q&A DV 39 "Serial API Choice".
