There may be some cases where the OS should give you the disconnect
sooner, a lost modem connection might be one, but in the general case
you
want to wait as long as you possibly can in the hope that the
connection
can be reestablished. In theory the modem can redial and resume the
connection, which is a rare setup but it is how my dialup connection
works.
So I'm not completely insane for thinking this is how my 8100 used to
work, under OS 8? It stopped doing it with OS 9, so after a while I
became unsure as to whether I'd imagined it all.... but it would have
been handy when the phone line at my old place went to heck in a hand
basket (unstable 300, yes, 300, bps connections). :)
