AOL does block certain ports. They also use a multitude of different types of proxy servers, depending on the location you dial in from. This wreaks havoc with online games (like one I'm working on), and depending entirely on the luck of the draw when you call support, you'll get either a very intelligent, helpful person, or someone who swears this isn't their problem (and who will always say it must be poorly written software, even after you remind them that you wrote the software).
