Programmatic SMB sharing

  • Subject: Programmatic SMB sharing

Is there a way, from an application running on Mac OS X 10.2, to create an SMB share either using an API or by running Unix-level tools via NSTask?

Bonus question 1: Is it possible to create one with a user name and password without having a Mac OS X user with that password?

Bonus question 2: Is it possible to use an alternative port, and not have the programmatically-created share interact with normal Windows file sharing? (For instance, so the programmatically-created share isn't taken down if the user turns off Windows file sharing, and so they don't share one smb.conf file?)

I know these are kind of "out there" questions but I suspect someone here might know the answers, or where I could look to find the answers.
