Can anyone tell me how I might force OSX PPPoE to negotiate PAP authentication?

It's not that I'm ignoring your question, it's just that I don't have any idea as to the answer )-: If you really need an answer, I can suggest two routes.

1. rummage through the Darwin PPP source to see how it decides on what authentication schemes to use

2. open a DTS Tech Support Incident

btw I haven't posted my personal "quality of service statement" in a while, so I figured it's about time.

Seeing as I'm the most active person from Apple on this list at the moment, I thought I'd put up a note about what I'll answer and what I won't. Basically, it goes like this:

o If it's a user-level, I'll most probably ignore it. This is a
programmer's mailing list and discussion should be limited
to programming IMHO. For user-level help, see the newsgroup
comp.sys.mac.comm (or one of the mailing lists referenced by
lists.apple.com).

o If I know the answer, I'll answer your question straightaway.

o If the answer is easy to find, I'll find it and then post it.

o If one of the other engineers lurkers on this sends me the answer to
your question, I'll forward it on.

o If it's a tough question, I won't spend a lot of time researching it.
Unfortunately I have only a limited number of cycles to spend here.
My real job is answering people who pay DTS for the privilege.

o If I don't know the answer, I'll keep quiet.

o If you continue a mailing list discussion by sending to my personal
email address, be prepared for me to post the response to the entire
list. If the discussion must be confidential, let me know in advance.

So, if you don't hear an answer from me here, you might trying forwarding your question to DTS <http://developer.apple.com/programs/techsupport.html> and I'll try to answer it on company time.

Some hints for getting a good response:

o Please post one question per email. While it may seem like an
optimisation to bundle all your questions together, it just makes
the threads harder to follow.
