Indeed. However, that doesn't make the API worthless, it just limits its scope (it only works with Apple software) or complicates its implementation (it has to query every installed firewall).

2) Isn't this a mission for SCNetwork.h?

It might make sense to put the functionality there. However, I'll leave that up to the folks who do the real work. Right now those engineers are all working hard to ship Panther.
