[OT] Phone home

  • Subject: [OT] Phone home

I am still using MacOS 9 on my main machine (TiBook). I just got a 2nd
machine (iBook 800) which is running under MacOS X 10.2.4. Both machines
connect to the internet via Airport Base Station modem.
Whenever I open the iBook lid and it wakes up, it tries to connect to the
internet and my Airport Base Station starts to dial out. This also
happens, when no application except the Finder is running. Very annoying.
The iBook is new, no 3rd party software installed yet.

Who is trying to phone home and how can I stop this?

There were several threads here on the list how to find out whether the
machine will start to dial when trying to connect. It seems that MacOS X
itself doesn't obey the rules.

(Needless to say, MacOS 9 doesn't behave so nasty...)

who needs windows and gates?
