A more refined question:

hard-coding 192.168.1.255 (24 bit subnet) now works on my powerbooks
where 255.255.255.255 would not-

I know how to derive the subnet, and thus the broadcast address
under OpenTransport, but I can't use any of those luxuries on this
project-

How does one derive the broadcast address just using BSD net calls?

(remembering that sysctl (CTL_KERN KERN_HOSTID) returns 0x00000000
on the two powerbooks in use)
