Help: virtual disk/volume via AFP?

Hello,

I am new to this list, please help...
We have a USB device/cable which can make a direct connect (via FIFO) between
two Macs.
We want to use it to transfer files/directories between two Macs.

I plan to make a AFP .XPP driver to emulate a virtual disk which contains all
mounted file systems of the other connected Mac as subfolders.
When both Macs are plugged with this USB device/cable, the virtual disk will
be automatically mounted.
Of course we should make the internal low-level file transfer protocol in the
driver by ourself.
The problem is: how and where to interface to AFP to create/maintain a virtual
disk, on OS 8/9 nad X respectively?
I've searched in Apple's developer site, but can't get enough clear
information...

Any information or suggestion about this will be greatly appreciated, thanks a
lot!
