extra firewall ports

  • Subject: extra firewall ports

It wasn't long ago that there was a discussion on an API for the
firewall. I am not really interested in that per say, but what I am
interested in is having the Sharing preference panel recognize my
application's port numbers. So if the user chooses "New", a window
comes up asking the user to choose an application.... a popup menu
features a handful of popular applications like ICQ, CVS, even
Gnutella. If an appliation isn't available, the user can choose
"Other" to create a new entry.

So, this prompts the question... what can I do to get my application
into that menu? Since I see the strings defined in
Localizable.strings, I suspect these are all hard-coded ports... (but
maybe Sharing will look for additional ports somewhere else? I know,
not likely... but I thought I'd ask). If it's not possible for an
application to register with the Sharing control panel, will Apple
entertain requests for additions to that popup menu? Just file a bug
ask ask nicely? :-)

thanks,
Chris
