There is no easy way to do this because, in most cases, the question makes no sense.  For example is, PPPoE modem or LAN?  What about PPTP, which is PPP over TCP over IP over some transport that you'd have to work out.  If you explain a little more background about what you're using this information for, I might be able to suggest a good solution.
