Hi all. I've been digging through OS X API documentation for the
last couple of hours, trying to find info/example of how to
determine if a wifi (802.11 device) is installed and up and running.
The solution needs to be Panther friendly. Could someone throw me a
pointer?

You'll want to use Apple's AirPort API which you can get from Apple DTS.
Look for "Apple80211.framework"
Well, it depends on exactly what you're trying to detect. If all you
want to know is whether the machine is using 802.11 networking, you
can get that information via the public System Configuration
framework (SCF).
Let us know what you're looking and I can be more specific.
