Does configd do anything involving the hard drive?

Hello:
I've been having a most annoying problem with my G5 pretty much since
the day I brought it home.
After the unit's been on for a bit I have problems where the display
won't time out or sometimes won't wake up. I've traced the problem
down to the configd process going into uninterruptible wait (Us in ps
-aux). I can't figure out what's causing it.
Here's what I've tried (EVERYTHING): Resetting persmissions; deleting
the Library/SystemConfiguration preferences; resetting pram, resetting
SMU; reinstalling the OS (twice); replacing the video card;
disconnecting all peripherals; physically reconfiguring my network;
replacing the main board!; and certain voodoo rituals. NOTHING WORKS!
I've tried running configd in a verbose debugging mode and have had no
luck deciphering anything. There's no time stamps. It never really
hangs, but the machine does start to act a bit weird. It only seems
to do it (I think) when it's plugged in to a network, and I've tried
three different setups.
Any ideas on what might be making it get stuck? Any better places to
ask this question?
Thanks, Heath
