Seems like we have been working on similar projects.
I am using the MoreSCF that was bundled with MoreIsBetter 1.8 (it is
much newer than the code that the standalone MoreSCF release has).
I get similar "New Port Found" but I get Firewire and Airport as an
added port everytime. I think it has to do with the fact that they are
not handled properly by the port scanner...
I had bigger fish to fry so I let that go... plus I am not configuring
those two interfaces anymore. If you figure it out, please let the
list know!
I poked around for AirportExtreme for a while and then was told to
scrap wireless setup -- so I stopped poking... woops.
I did, however, realize that it is partly due to the way that an AE
appears on the system -- ie it MoreSCF thinks it is another PCI
Ethernet device instead of Wireless. I think to implement this prior
to the nice 10.4 API's that Quinn pointed me to (check archives of
September 2005) you could check if the 80211 driver is loaded using
IOReg like Quinn does in the PortScannner code.
Sorry this post is not very helpful, but at least I can show some
solidarity hehe. As Duane said, apparently 10.4's SystemConfiguration
API additions provide a maintainable PortScanning code. For my
purposes, however, MoreSCF is just the ticket since it supports 10.1
through 10.4 if you are only interested in built in modems and
ethernet interfaces.
Good luck!
