We're not interested in using the Mac as a router. The problem is
that a Mac running 10.4.x is unable to access a server with DNS load
balancing using IPv4 multicast routing.

Sadly, Mac OS X doesn't support IGMPv3, only IGMPv2-- so, no SSM.
If all one needs is DVMRP, however, one might try to compile
FreeBSD's mrouted(1M) from source.
