waitevent and modwatch are not APIs. They're not documented, and don't appear in standard user space headers ("/usr/include"). There isn't even any system call glue for them in libSystem, which means that you have to roll your own system call glue (which is a compatibility nightmare in and of itself).


These routines were created to improve the performance of certain Apple servers (notably the AFP server) prior to the development of kqueues. Now that kqueues are available, you should use them.
