I can only support Scott's request to support kernel extensions on the
iPhone.
We need it for SCTP because apple still doesnt support SCTP in the
kernel so it has to be added by a kernel extesion.
And multihoming of SCTP is a perfect feature for the iPhone, given you
might loose WLAN when you walk out of the room, a second association
can be up over GPRS/EDGE. This means an application will have a
connection to a remote SCTP peer and it will not go down if you switch
from WLAN to GPRS/EDGE.
But Apple doesn't seem to care too much about real useful applications
for the iphone.

Dear Scott,
I think it's pretty clear from the SDK License that Apple will not
be supporting any type of 3rd party kernel extension... at least for
the foreseeable future if ever. The SDK license strictly points out
that the only code that will be allowed to enter into a customer's
iPhone/iPod Touch is code that only uses the public API. Any code
that uses unpublished API will be rejected. Since there is nothing
there for Kernel Extensions I think the writing on the wall is
pretty clear.
I think this is a huge win as Apple can change things internally as
much as they wish and that really cool application that everyone
uses will not be affected because it wasn't allowed to use some of
the stuff that changed. As well, it ensures performance and
stability. The two things that are probably the most important to
maintain on a mobile device.
Thanks,
Michael

I've been waiting for the iPhone SDK to be released before asking
this question. I don't see any documentation or statement of
support for the NKE's on the iPhone. Is there any word on if/when
we might see apple supporting NKE's for the iPhone? Any links or
additional information on the topic would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Scott
