Power is not that difficult a problem to solve in most cars. You just
need the right 12v automotive adaptor.

I like to think Apple is figuring this out in small steps. They've
done a remarkable job with the iPhone so far, and are being careful to
advance the platform in ways that don't dilute the distinctive user
experience. In 5 years, a cell-connected AirPort base station will be
a no brainer. You can buy dedicated hardware to do this now for
around $300. Including such a feature in the iPhone this year would
be huge because the alternatives are complicated and expensive (giving
Apple an opportunity to own this market).
