Created Computer-to-Computer Network ping error when Ethernet is enabled?

  • Subject: Created Computer-to-Computer Network ping error when Ethernet is enabled?

Host1 is Ethernet connected and I created a computer-to-computer network wirelessly.
I connected Host2 to Host1 through the created computer-to-computer network.
I can successfully ping Host2 from Host1.
But when I tried pinging the broadcast address of en1(i.e. 169.254.255.255) from Host1
I was not able to get a reply, it keeps on saying "host is down".
However, if I disable Ethernet connection, I can successfully ping the broadcast address of en1.
I am using Leopard 10.5.6.

Is the above scenario normal?
