I connected Host2 to Host1 through the created computer-to-computer

Host1 is now "multihomed" or attached to two networks: (1) Ethernet;
(2) computer-to-computer wireless.
Within the Network Preferences Panel, there is a "Network Service
Order" which defines which network connection (wired or wireless) will
be is used first when it is available.
I can successfully ping Host2 from Host1.
But when I tried pinging the broadcast address of en1(i.e.
169.254.255.255) from Host1
I was not able to get a reply, it keeps on saying "host is down".
Broadcasts are not automatically forwarded from network to another,
and 169.254.255.255 is not a universal broadcast address, but a subnet
broadcast address that depends on other stations being configured to
use the same IP subnet. The "host is down" message generally means
there was no response to ARP for the specified destination address.
However, if I disable Ethernet connection, I can successfully ping
the broadcast address of en1.
I am using Leopard 10.5.6.
You haven't specified what IP subnet your Ethernet and AirPort
interfaces have been configured to use. Are they on the same IP subnet?
Is the above scenario normal?
It depends on what you did. The behavior of some configurations is
not well defined.
