I commented in the Cocoa Dev mailing list that it would of been a
GREAT place to publish the host model number.
so you and I are on the same page here, maybe we should call apple :)
in any case the search for the machine icon seems to end up in the AFP
server protocol for now, all i need to know is if it's TCP or UDP.
After my readings i find it would make sense to broadcast a UDP
datagram for tis type of information.
to connect you need a user auth, and well finder does not have one at
the time he gets the icon.
so here is my train of thought.
1: receive bonjour notification.
2: resolve the service(s)
3: send UDP datagram to the host
4: receive datagram from host
Or maybe it could be better to broadcast the datagram to the subnet
broadcast IP ...
and pick up whatever replied :)
I think I need a little guidance before adventuring out on this.
Anyone ?
Sandro Noel. :)

I've tried to look into the TXTRecord but there is simply nothing

should i Scan for services other than afpovertcp to get machine
information ?
Hm, you're right. (The Bonjour Browser app is good for inspecting
this stuff easily.)
I'm not sure what other service would give you this information. The
_workstation._tcp service is used by Workgroup Manager, but it
doesn't have a TXT record either.
