a little off-topic -- getting a kernel dump

  • Subject: a little off-topic -- getting a kernel dump

Hi all,

I'm looking for a little advice with regard to getting a kernel dump on Intel hardware (current Mac Mini, to be specific).

I have set up the server etc etc as described in the technotes, and it does generate a dump when I press the power button.

However, at the time of the problem (seems to be a kernel hang, because the fan is running hard) pressing it does not cause the dump. Does anyone know if there is a way to generate a dump?

A little background: the problem occurs after the system is put to sleep while a network drive (HFS+) is mounted. Sometime during the night it hangs and won't wake up. We think that it might be related to the wake-to-hibernate that occurs after 70 minutes, but that's just speculation. So we're trying to get more info.

Thanks.....Peter
